There are so many different job opportunities out there for this profession, in many different fields of study. You can find them in hospitals, laboratories, nursing homes, therapy centers, clinics and so on and so on. In today’s medical world physician assistants are critical to assisting the doctors, surgeons and physicians so they can get through there ever growing daily responsibilities.

On the surface it is easy to see how a career as a physician assistant can be a fun and exiting opportunity. There are many different career paths you can go as well as different advancements you may get to explore. This is a hard road of studying but if you put in the time and effort this is a very rewarding career.

But before you can just jump right in and start helping patents you will of course need some kind of education. First you will need to have completed your bachelors degree. Then it’s on to higher education. Of course while working on your bachelor’s degree you will need to let your advisors know that you want to get as many courses as possible to help toward your acceptance into the physician assistant program. You see once you complete your bachelors you will need to apply to the physician assistant program. This can be either at the same or a different school if the one you are getting your bachelors doesn’t have it.

Once you get accepted into the program, you will have about 2 to 3 years of course work to finish before you get your physician assistant certification. This is no joke of course, this program is training you to be the assistant to a doctor and you should treat this with your full attention. This program will most likely require your undivided attention and will be very demanding.

Assuming you study hard and complete your schooling you can take and pass your certification. Once you pass you will then need to register with your state medical association. This is a requirement for all physician assistants. But once you complete that you can start working in the fast pasted real world of physician assistants. But don’t think your schooling is over, there is also a required 100 hours of CE’s required every two years. CE’s if you don’t know yet are continuing educations courses that will keep you up to date with new technologies and laws. Most medical professions have this requirement like medical assistants, pharmacy technicians ect. Also, every six years depending on the state there is a re-certification just to make sure you stay on top of your game.

Once you complete your physician assistant program you can seek out prospective employers. You can interview with doctors for specific specialties like gynecology, orthopedic, respiratory, surgical, radiology and so on to find your personal liking to being a physician assistant.
